The SEPW Academy opened it's doors in May 2016. At The Academy our members learn how to become professional wrestlers in a world class 16ft x 16ft wrestling ring through sessions with Head Coach, Matthew Huntley. Sessions are aimed at people who are 15 years and older and are suitable for both males and females.

At the Academy our members learn about all aspects of wrestling, including;

  • Break falls and rope running – for safety.

  • Tumbling – for body control and ring awareness.

  • Basic techniques – lock ups, simple holds and counters.

  • Strength training - cardio vascular and body conditioning.

  • Character development and delivering promos.

  • Match structure.

  • Nutrition and weight training advice.

  • Using social media to build a fan base and obtain bookings.

Guest trainers, such as British wrestling legend Doug Williams and WWE Superstar Chris Masters, have visited the academy this year to pass their wealth of knowledge on to our students.

Some of our students have gone on to make their debut on South East  Professional Wrestling events and many more are working hard to make the grade. We help trainees gain experience in front of a live crowd by running Hustle & Heart Academy events. Watch previous matches on our YouTube channel.

The safety and well-being of our students is of the highest degree of importance and a First Aid trained person will be on site for sessions.

If you are looking to get into the wrestling business as a referee, MC or manager/valet then we can help you with this as well. So, whether you want to be the next wrestling superstar or if you simply want to find an alternative way to keep fit whilst learning a new skill there is something for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there an induction fee?

There is a one off induction fee of £10 for any new students to be paid on your first training session. This is to cover the additional time required to introduce new students to the training academy and admin costs.

What should I bring to training sessions?

Students are expected to wear clean trainers, shorts or jogging bottoms, and a t-shirt or gym vest.

Personal hygiene is very important – please bring a towel to dry yourself down during the session. In addition, remember to bring water with you to re-hydrate.

Specialist equipment isn't needed straight away but we do advise that in time you invest in some knee and elbow pads to protect your joints and some amateur style wrestling or boxing boots to help support your ankles (these can be picked up at a reasonable price).

Will I get to wrestle on shows?

SEPW also produces main events and trainee live events. If you work hard to perfect your wrestling skills you will gain the opportunity to showcase them on our live events in front of hundreds of people whilst working alongside experienced professional wrestlers who will be able to offer advice to help further your wrestling education.

Can children take part?

Currently we only accept students who are 15 years and above.  We are looking to offer junior classes in the future; please keep an eye on the website for updates or contact training@sepw.co.uk.

We have recently started offering parties geared towards children, so please take a look at our 'Hire Us' page for more information.

Do I need to be fit?

Whilst we expect you to have a reasonable level of fitness this is something we can help improve during training sessions.

Still not sure? Come along to one of our training sessions, meet the coach and students and observe what we do, there is no pressure to join in.

NOTE: The more you time and energy you invest in your training, the more you will get out of it. Sessions are coached by the South East Professional Wrestling event producer, Matthew Huntley, who will be on the lookout for the next South East Superstars.
